Hiking Trails in Bay Area
| Santa Cruz Mountains — The most pleasant hikes in the bay area are amid the Redwoods in Santa Cruz mountains. Almost all trails are shaded and very pleasant. You may hike here all year round; it’s cool throughout. After the rains, the forest is lush green. |
| East Bay — Most trails are in the open, without shade. Hot in summers, muddy in winters, beautiful in spring. Best visited in March / April timeframe when valleys abound with spring wildflowers. Second best time is autumn and winters when it’s not raining. Avoid during summers. Sweeping vistas. |
| Marin County — Many hikes are next to the ocean, offering wonderful views. Best times to go are clear days in spring and autumn. |
